Video advice: International day of Families 2022

Every family deserves the chance to make a better future for themselves and their children. That is why strong families will always be at the heart of my Administration’s agenda — from the classroom to the workplace to our military. Over the past 4 years, we have worked to bring a complete and competitive education within reach for all our children, and we have striven to help them grow up healthy by broadening access to nutritious meals. To ensure families have health coverage when they need it most, the Affordable Care Act put in place comprehensive reforms that will hold insurance companies accountable, improve health care quality, and expand access to affordable coverage. My Administration has also pursued greater workplace flexibility, so working parents do not face a choice between their jobs and meeting their families’ needs. Moreover, we continue to promote the critical role fathers can play in enhancing the intellectual, emotional, and financial well-being of our sons and daughters.

FlexJobs and 1 Million For Work Flexibility Celebrate National Flex Day to Raise Awareness of the Importance of Work Flexibility

BOULDER, Colo., October 08, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — FlexJobs and 1 Million for Work Flexibility (1MFWF) have announced they will celebrate National Flex Day on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 with a number of activities and by hosting a virtual career fair later in the month, to raise awareness about the importance of work flexibility. National Flex Day, started in 2013 and held during National Work & Family Month, is designed to inspire professionals and employers alike to unite behind the need for work flexibility, bring awareness to the benefits, and move the issue forward on a national scale. Flexible work is defined as any type of job or work schedule that gives workers more control over their workday and therefore over their personal life. This could include remote work, freelancing, part-time jobs, alternative schedule jobs, and flexible schedule jobs, and it is absolutely growing. In fact, FlexJobs found that remote work has increased 91% over the last ten years. National Flex Day can be a catalyst to increase this number in the next ten years and help put even more workers in control of their work life.

Work-life balance

The issues around finding the balance between family life, private life and work are gaining increased attention in political and business circles in Europe and Germany. A key issue for many workers is flexible working time.

Notwithstanding what has been said previously, today over half of all university graduates are women. Female students are well represented in the professions; they lead in some fields such as medicine and law. The new availability of qualified female graduates is likely to bring great changes in the German workplace of the future.

Working culture

A key issue for many workers is flexible working time in order to have a work-life balance. Negotiating a work/life balance can help enable parents (both men and women) to reconcile their work with their family lives and women in particular to participate in the labour market. Finding the right work-life balance can allow workers to take leave from work so that they can participate in education or training or take up an interest, hobby or leisure pursuit. This may mean that employees can reorganise their working lives and hours around shorter days, weeks, months or years.

Work & Family Month

October is Work and Family Month! The aim of National Work and Family Month (WFM) is to raise awareness for family-friendly policies, work-place flexibility and other work-life benefits that attract, de-stress, engage and retain a talented workforce. We aim to highlight our efforts in helping people manage their home and work responsibilities so they can bring their best selves to each day. Below please find some resources to help you find some work and life harmony.

October is Work and Family Month! – Join Kim Homer Vagadori, Project Director for the California Youth Advocacy Network, in this special presentation on how e-cigarettes, vapes, JUUL, and Sorens, are changing the landscape of tobacco control. Youth and young adults are more likely to use these new and emerging tobacco and nicotine products than any other age group population. Sales of JUULs have increased 800% in the past year, and research shows that these products are being used by young people who may have not considered using tobacco.

NATIONAL EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY

National Employee Appreciation Day on the first Friday in March each year focuses attention on employees in all industries. Employers across the country in business and organizations plan employee recognition and celebrations. Employee achievement and contributions are honored.

  • HOW TO OBSERVE #EmployeeAppreciationDay
  • NATIONAL EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY HISTORY

Employees are one of a company’s greatest assets. Recognition and appreciation are known as some of the key motivational factors in the workplace. An employer may show their gratitude for an employee’s efforts and contributions to the company’s goals in a variety of ways. Many organizations include employee appreciation as part of their business structure. It shows how much they value their employees and keeps morale high in the workplace. Employers who express employee appreciation tend to increase employee job satisfaction as well.

Family-friendly working means work flexibility

National Flex Day, celebrated the third Tuesday of October (October 20th this year), is designed to raise awareness of the many benefits of flexible work for employees, their families, and employers alike. This year, Flex Day may be more important than ever as we all come to reimagine work-life balance in our new normal. Working (…)

We all know that engaged employees are happier, healthier, and more productive employees. For organizations on the fence about increasing flexibility in the workplace, consider the positive impact of work flexibility on employee engagement, retention, and the attraction of top talent. National Flex Day can help open discussions about what flexible working could look like for your organization.

Employer considerations

In fact, JPMorgan Chase & Co. shared that most of their employees moved to work-from-home arrangements for safety reasons, resulting in overall reduced work output for all employees, especially on Mondays and Fridays. JPMorgan Chase cited additional concern that the compulsory work-from-home environment negatively impacted younger workers, and stunted creativity and organic interaction between colleagues. While this experience of reduced productivity seems to refute the results of earlier surveys which showed that U.S. employees working from home during the pandemic were working an estimated three hours more each day – more than any other country – it does confirm the early concerns that the excessive hours and sub-optimal work-from-home conditions would eventually lead to burnout and lower productivity.

National Parental Involvement Day

National Parent Involvement Day provides a yearly opportunity for schools and families to honor and highlight the powerful contributions of parents.

Growth mindset encourages struggling kids to recognize that just because they are not grasping something in the moment does not mean they will never grasp it, Principal Jerri McGonigal said. “Everybody’s going to reach a point that it’s going to get hard, and they need to have the skills to say ‘I can keep struggling with this,’” McGonigal said.

LETTER — Parents, stay involved in your kid’s education

Since 1994 National Parental Involvement Day forms part of the weeklong observation known as American Education Week. National Parental Involvement Day celebrates public education and honors parents who make a difference in ensuring that every student receives a quality education. Project Appleseed’s next annual celebration of National Parental Involvement Day is held on November 17, 2022 – the third Thursday of the month! National Parental Involvement Day, provides a yearly opportunity for schools and families to honor and highlight the powerful contributions parents and caregivers provide at school and home to support student success. However, parental involvement shouldn’t be confined to just one day – it should be emphasized all year long. Getting involved in your child’s education has been shown to dramatically increase the chances of academic success. This annual day of recognition serves as not only a celebration of currently involved parents, but also a reminder to seek out ways to make a difference.

Being a working mom is tough. While I have never worked for a Fortune 500 company, I have been fortunate enough to have many flexible jobs in my career. Working for small businesses definitely has its perks. Whether I needed to work with an infant in my office, bring a sick child to work, or work from home, I have been blessed to have employers who saw my value, trusted my work ethic, and allowed me flexibility. Typically, with my office work, I have had the flexibility to come in late, take a longer lunch, or leave early to attend meetings, watch awards assemblies, participate in extra-curricular activities, and tend to sick children. In return, I have scheduled payroll after the soccer game, emailed from the children’s library, and worked on a newsletter before the rest of the family woke.
