- Students register for classes each semester with the best intentions, but at times, circumstances prevent them from beginning the semester. Often these circumstances direct the student’s attention away from the College, and they do not drop their courses. Please take advantage of your opportunity to remove these students from your class.
- If registered students have not attended, logged into, or otherwise participated during the first few days of class, you may remove them by entering a “DN” as a mid-term grade. The “DN” removes the student from your class roster and eliminates the need for a failing grade at the end of the term. Grades of F can negatively impact a student’s financial aid eligibility, ability to repeat a course, and overall academic standing. A “DN” will eliminate these issues. Please review your roster and drop non-attending students. To view the DN policy in the catalog please visit
- FAQ: How is attendance for online courses determined? Attendance for online courses from the 2022-21 Federal Student Aid Handbook:For distance education, documenting that a student has logged into an online class is not sufficient to demonstrate academic attendance by the student. A school must demonstrate that a student participated in class or was otherwise engaged in an academically related activity.
- Examples of acceptable evidence of academic attendance and attendance at an academically related activity in a distance education course/program include:
- student submission of an academic assignment
- student submission of an exam
