1 person dies in Redding, California as atmospheric river causes major flooding, police say

REDDING, Calif. (KGO) — At least one person has died in Redding because of flooding in the city as the water just overtook the streets. Some people ended up abandoning their cars.

Police are warning people to avoid driving and stay home.

Part of I-5 also flooded, creating a traffic jam in both directions.

Some people got trapped in the high water and had to be rescued.

The CHP closed several lanes of traffic to clear the vehicles and other hazards.
