FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) — Five dogs left abandoned in Fremont are now being cared for at Tri-City Animal Shelter.
A few of the dogs will be up for adoption starting Wednesday and the others a bit later.
Kelly Miott, animal services manager for Fremont, said all the dogs were discovered within a 72-hour period between the end of last week and this weekend and they were concerned somebody was dumping dogs in the city.
All the dogs are thought to be about three or four years old and Shih Tzu or Poodle mixes.

Fremont police is investigating who is responsible for abandoning at least five dogs around the city over a period of about three days, police said.
Animal services says a sixth dog with white, fluffy coat, is still on the loose.
“They were very uncomfortable with matting,” Miott said. “In fact, we couldn’t even see the eyes on one of them and it was almost like the dog gave up when the officer picked it up from underneath the car, so it was a really sad situation.”
Freemont police posted on social media that two of the dogs were left at Irvington Park, one under a car on North Grimmer Boulevard and two near Quarry Lakes. That’s where ABC7 News found dog lovers shocked somebody would abandon pooches like that.
“It’s not really good, it’s not really good,” said Union City resident Lorenzo Regner.

“Very sad, very sad state, very sad,” said Fremont resident Sampath Srinivasan. “They cannot abandon dogs like that.”
Miott said even though many shelters may be full now, they can offer resources if you can no longer care for your pet. Or they can serve as a last resort.
“If they’ve reached the end of the line and there really is no options for them, for whatever reason, we can be a soft landing place for them to come,” Miott said.
Some of the dogs will be up for adoption starting Wednesday.
