LOS ANGELES — The unique series “LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past” reunites two brothers in a mixed-up galaxy far, far away. The second season of the Lego-Star Wars mashup is flying back on to Disney+.
The sequel keeps with the series’ original themes and takes creative risks, brings in new characters and keeps the spirit of “Star Wars” front and center, while enjoying the unique elements of the LEGO universe.
“We really created this series to be a love letter to those two fandoms, to LEGO Star Wars, made by fans for the fans,” executive producer and writer Benji Samit said.
“But part of, I think writing a love letter to those fandoms, was also giving them a brand new story that really felt spiritually like the thing that they love,” executive producer and writer Dan Hernandez said.
Gaten Matarazzo lends his voice to the series.
“I think it’s a really fun opportunity to introduce the world of ‘Star Wars’ to younger viewers and new fans without necessarily spoiling too much,” Matarazzo said. “But also, what’s so great about it is the more of a ‘Star Wars’ fan you are, I think the more appreciation you’ll have for the references.”
“This is a ‘Star Wars’ story, and yes it’s LEGO, and yes it’s a little off-kilter and quirky but at its heart, in its DNA, it’s a great ‘Star Wars’ story,” Hernandez said.
“We want everyone to feel welcomed in it. We don’t want to gatekeep with references or anything. We hope that whether this be the first ‘Star Wars’ thing you’re watching or just the latest in all of them, we hope you love it because we put in our passion for it and we hope that shines through,” actor Tony Revolori said.
“LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past” returns Sept. 19 on Disney+.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney+ and this ABC station.
