Amanda Seyfried’s latest film, “The Testament of Ann Lee” now has a release date.
The film follows Amanda in the title role of Ann Lee, who is the founder of the religious sect known as the Shakers and who proclaimed herself a female incarnation of Christ.
The film also stars Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Tim Blake Nelson and Christopher Abbott. It’s directed by Mona Fastvold.
Searchlight Pictures acquired “The Testament of Ann Lee” at the Venice Film Festival where it made its debut.
Seyfried spoke about the film at a press conference there.
“The experience was so incredible,” Seyfried said. “I felt completely protected and held up and surrounded by people loving artists and in a place where everybody knew the value of making this and understood Mona’s vision. And it’s just very rare.”
“Portraying a woman that’s been through so much trauma and seeing her overcome that and have this vision and this devotion to God and also portraying a woman, at the end of the day, someone who felt like I have space in this world, too, as a woman and a child of God, to serve people and in a world where just women did not lead, it made it all easier,” she continued.
“The Testament of Ann Lee” will be in theaters – in 70mm by the way – December 25.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Searchlight Pictures and this ABC station.
