Lee said, “I spoke with Alameda County Sheriff Yesenia Sanchez, who confirmed through her communications with ICE that Border Patrol operations are cancelled for the greater Bay Area – which includes Oakland – at this time.”
On Thursday, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie says that President Donald Trump called him and told him he was “calling off any plans for a federal deployment” in the city. Whether that applied to the rest of the Bay Area was unclear at the time.
This comes as protests continue Friday after shots were fired at the entrance to the Alameda Coast Guard base when a U-Haul truck attempted to reverse into the gate.
Two people were injured in the Thursday night incident and the FBI is investigating.
