SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose reopened to shoppers Saturday with a noticeable police presence inside. This follows a shooting incident on Black Friday that left three people wounded.
The gunfire sent hundreds of people running for cover inside stores. Police are still searching for a suspect.
Dennis Lamonia’s family shared a terrifying video, seconds after shots were fired inside Valley Fair Mall on Black Friday. His family took cover with other shoppers inside a store.
“We tried to hide in one corner. Babies crying, people running, chaos. People tripping, falling. You could hear pops in the background, three pops,” Lamonia said.

On Saturday, Valley Fair reopened at noon with a large police presence inside. Many shoppers and employees came to claim items left behind, even cars that were stuck inside the garage, part of the police investigation.
“I had employees who left cars here. A lot of people had to get rides here today just to pick up cars,” said Bredy Jones, ALO employee.
A second-floor glass railing near Macy’s was shattered. San Jose police confirm that three people were shot: one adult male, one adult female and one 16-year-old girl. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police emphasised that this was an isolated incident. Investigators added that there was a possible argument outside Macy’s, which escalated into a shooting. Police say the two female victims were not part of the dispute, likely hit by stray gunfire.
A neighbor shared a video of people running away from Valley Fair.

“It sounded like a movie: boom, boom, boom,” said Dominic Herrera.
Herrera was heading back to work at Hot Topic, where employees barricaded the door to keep 40 to 50 customers safe inside during the gunfire.
“Every person you can think of, young, old. We were trying to get the babies to the back. So we’re passing tiny infants to the back,” Herrera said.
Police say the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting incident is likely gang-related. Police have not provided a description of the suspect, who is still at large.
