PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLS) — There is an active shooter near Brown University buildings on Saturday afternoon, according to alerts sent by school officials.
The first BrownUAlert said a shooter was reported near the Barus & Holley Engineering in Providence, Rhode Island.
A second alert said there is an active shooter situation near the Barus & Holley department.
The alert says one person is in custody, but directed students to continue to shelter.
The alerts directed students to “Lock doors, silence phones and stay stay hidden until further notice. Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE, if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT, as a last resort, take action to protect yourself. Stay tuned for further safety information.”
Brown and Providence police are on the scene, school officials said.
Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
