SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — It’s an early Christmas present for the San Francisco 49ers and their fans. The radio voice of the Niners, Greg Papa, has been medically cleared to call the last two games of the season, and perhaps the playoffs at KNBR.
Papa has been battling leukemia and has been unable to broadcast games.
KNBR first announced his return Wednesday morning on social media.

Papa still needs chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
ABC7 Sports Director Larry Beil spoke with Papa on Wednesday, and he says Papa is in great spirits, ready to get back to calling games.
Papa began his local broadcasting career back in the 1980s as the voice of the Warriors. He’s also broadcast for the A’s, Giants and Raiders games.
