STATESVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — Authorities say a plane crashed while landing at a regional airport Thursday in North Carolina, erupting in a large fire.
A Cessna C550 crashed around 10:20 a.m. while landing at Statesville Regional Airport, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement. The airport also confirmed on Facebook that there was an aircraft incident.
ABC affiliate WSOC reported that the plane is owned by NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, according to public records.
Officials have not confirmed who was onboard and if there are any fatalities.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide any updates.
