SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) — Members of the Santa Clara County Rapid Response Network condemn the violence they saw in Minnesota and similar issues they’ve seen locally as well.
After Renee Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent working as an immigration enforcement legal observer, the SCCRRN reiterated its support for the South Bay immigrant community.
“The Rapid Response Network in Santa Clara County is here to protect, empower and serve,” Responder Mariana Haro said. “And we want to say this plainly: we are unafraid.”
Rapid responders in Santa Clara County are instructed to watch — never interfere — during enforcement. And they say, they’ve observed many issues.

“This includes agents breaking car windows to drag people out of vehicles, agents kneeling on top and beating individuals who are already handcuffed, and a complete disregard for people’s medical needs,” Responder Stephanie Jayne said.
They say ICE’s actions have targeted them as well.
Yesenia Campos said she was forcibly detained in October during a legal observation. No charges were filed against her.
“I was doing exactly what Minneapolis protesters were doing: observing, documenting and exercising my rights,” Campos said. “And an ICE agent decided to charge at me with force when I was complying and not a threat to him at all.”

The Rapid Response Network took steps to protect responders following that incident, and local leaders have done the same for residents.
San Jose, Santa Clara County and the State of California have enacted rules that require ICE to properly identify themselves during enforcement and limit their ability to run operations at schools and hospitals.
After the shooting of Good in Minneapolis, this group wants to see continued support.
“We are tired of seeing the same pattern repeat: a killing, a press conference, an investigation that goes nowhere and families left to grieve without justice,” Campos said. “Say her name. Tell the truth and end this violence now.”
