SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Preparations continued on Wednesday for the big fireworks show on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Barricades were up and law enforcement was positioned.
Many in the Bay Area started their festivities early. Families welcomed the new year in the morning with a countdown and balloon drop at Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos.
“It was really fun when all the balloons came down, and everyone was running around catching them,” said Kian Goyal, 8, who lives in San Mateo.
“My favorite thing was the 3D snowflake,” said Ivy Cervenka, 6, who lives in San Mateo.
Families enjoyed music, dancing and face painting at this daytime New Year’s Eve party. Even better: it was inside on a rainy day.

Meanwhile, on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, law enforcement was positioned and the setup was underway for the big fireworks show.
The pyrotechnics company tells ABC7 News that the fireworks will go off, rain or shine.

And the wet weather won’t stop people from ringing in the new year in San Francisco.
“I’m a San Franciscan,” said Dave Scheff. “It’s raining. That’s normal. Thank goodness it’s normal.”
The fireworks show starts at midnight and lasts 15 minutes.
Many will be watching from the Ferry Building and along the Embarcadero. You are encouraged to get there early to get a good spot.
