BENICIA, Calif. (KGO) — A 7-foot-tall Labubu sculpture is now celebrating fall outside a Benicia bakery.
This is at One House Bakery, which is competing in the town’s Benicia Main Street Scarecrow Contest.

Labubus are a trending plush toy. The bakers have dubbed this one Le VanVan.
Le VanVan has been greeting many excited customers at One House Bakery.
“Look how amazing this is,” said Teresa Albino, who was in Benicia visiting family. “Every kid in America needs to come see this.”
Chef Pervan said Le VanVan weighs about 300 pounds. Though he has a wooden frame, everything visitors can see is made out of bread.
Le VanVan’s name is a play on Labubu and levan, an ingredient used in most of the pieces of bread that make up his body. The bread that makes up his face though, is a little different.
“This is something called Dead dough, and dead dough has no leavening agent. It’s nothing that’s going to puff it up, and it bakes really hard,” Chef Pervan said, pointing to Le VanVan’s face. “So we were able to sand it a bit and sculpt it and get it that actual look.”
The bakery is known for its incredible scarecrow displays.
Chef Pervan only discovered the world of Labubu back in August, when they started to think of what creation they could come up with this year.
“My grandchildren up in Canada were talking about a Labubu. ‘Can I get a Labubu for my birthday?’ ‘I’m like, what is that?’ So I talked to my daughter, and we said, you know, we could probably figure that out.”
One main thing to figure out was how to bake him.
“Part of the constraint is it has to be able to go in the oven. You have to be able to break it down into pieces that are bakeable,” Chef Pervan said.
The other challenge she and her team had was getting him outside.
“We had to take his arms off, and we had to very, very gingerly bring him up the stairs,” she said.
Now that Le VanVan is proudly on display.
Chef Pervan said she’s been most excited by the community reaction.
“Kids are like, ‘Is it edible? Can I eat it?’ And I’m like, ‘You probably could, but it wouldn’t taste very good.'” Chef Pervan said. “The response, and Benicia, the community here, is so amazing.”
The bakery plans to display him through Halloween.
