SAN MATEO, Calif. (KGO) — Lanes were shut down on both sides of I-280 between Farm Hill Boulevard and Edgewood Road on Saturday as crews battle a 4-alarm fire that broke out in San Mateo County.
Evacuations were issued in Woodside at Laning Drive and Canada Road, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.
Firefighters responded quickly and forward progress was stopped on the northbound side of I-280 around 5:40 p.m. CAL FIRE said crews were still battling the fire on the southbound side and an air attack was dropping fire retardant.
CAL FIRE said multiple crews were dispatched to the fire that was estimated at two to three acres around 5 p.m. In an update, CAL FIRE said the fire was estimated to be six acres on the west side of I-280 and four acres on the east side.
Police said the cause of the wildfire was due to a car fire that spread to nearby vegetation.
No injuries have been reported. Drivers are recommended to take US-101 as an alternative route.
