GILROY, Calif. (KGO) — Gilroy police are urging parents to check their children’s leftover Halloween candy carefully after a dangerous incident that sounds like an urban legend.
Police say a teen bit into a Milky Way candy bar and found a razor blade hidden inside.
Police released a photo of the candy showing part of the razor sticking out.
The girl told officers she got the candy while trick-or-treating on Halloween near her home on Westwood Drive.
She made the discovery several days later on November 5. Her family contacted authorities the following morning.
“(She) bit into a Milky Way bar and noticed as she was chewing, there seems to be something in her candy, took it out of her mouth, realized there was a razor blade wedged inside the nougat,” said Officer Katie Fisher with the Gilroy Police Department.
Investigators say the child suffered minor cuts to her mouth.
She told them there was no indication the candy had been tampered with before she opened it.
If anyone has any information on the case, the public is asked to contact Sgt. Ellsworth at [email protected].
