SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — In the South Bay, police are asking for help to find the man who assaulted someone at a beloved bakery and made a mess of the place.
Video of the incident has gone viral, but weeks have gone by with no leads. Customers are frustrated that the attacker still hasn’t been found.
Peters Bakery in San Jose is a community gem. For almost 90 years, it has been making desserts.
San Jose resident Clarence Jackson was holding a cake for his daughter’s 19th birthday.
“I’ve been coming to Peters Bakery for about 60 years,” Jackson said.

San Jose police are looking for a man who caused a violent scene at the bakery last month, and they’re hoping the public can help identify him.
Peters Bakery posted surveillance video from Dec. 17 of a man who came in trying to sell cleaning wipes. When staff declined, he became belligerent and destroyed equipment. When a customer tried to record him, he came back and tackled her to the ground. Later in the video you can see he grabs her phone and smashes it to the ground.
Brenna Pratt said it’s sad.
“This is horrible, it’s a disgrace,” Pratt said.
On Friday, San Jose police held a press conference urging the public to help identify the suspect. They say he is responsible for vandalism and assault.

“It really goes to how we want to build strong relationships with our community. We always say the community are our eyes and ears and when it comes to crime. Once you report it, we want to work closely to make sure that we get it solved,” said Stacie Shih, senior public information representative.
The co-owner of Peters’ Bakery sent us this statement: “Violence of any kind, directed at anyone, undermines the sense of security that binds our neighborhood together.”
Customers we spoke to are glad to see there’s a continued to effort to find the man. Police say the suspect is known to frequent businesses in East San Jose.
“I think that it’s good they’re doing that, because sometimes, you know, with everything going on, they just might slip through the cracks. So San Jose on top of it is great,” Jose Lopez said.
At Peters, they aren’t letting the investigation slow down business for baking.
“I mean, everybody knows about their burnt almond cake. This is what they specialize in,” Pratt said.
