SAN FRANCISCO — The answer to the age-old question has arrived: “How much is that doggy in the window?” And the answer is, pay what you can, for cats and other animals, too.
The San Francisco SFSPCA is continuing its live window display at Macy’s Union Square for the 39th year in hopes of finding adoptions for 500 animals.
“We have done this event for 39 years. In 39 years, it’s totaled over 10,000 animals being sent home. What an amazing number, those are all lives of animals that have homes now. We have a goal of reaching over 500 adoptions, so hopefully folks are going to help us reach that,” said Aeris Velasco, Assistant Manager of Adoptions and Client Care at SFSPCA.
Velasco says you can come and adopt directly from Macy’s Union Square. Any animal over 5 months old is name-your-price, and you can contribute what you can to take one of these animals home.
“It is one of San Francisco’s most famed and favorite holiday traditions. We are actually seeing folks that came here as kids, bringing their own families and kids to see the window displays. For some, it’s a tradition to adopt directly at Macy’s Union Square,” added Velasco.
The SFSPCA makes it easy to adopt at any one of their San Francisco locations. New pet parents need to be 18 years old, have a valid ID and show proof of residency.
“It is so easy to adopt, and we want to make sure we take away any barriers to adoptions. Everything else is a conversation with you and an adoption counselor, which includes a meet and greet with your potential candidate for adoption,” expressed Velasco.
The SFSPCA has volunteers and staff that help throughout every step of the process. It includes post-option check-ins, and resources available any time.
