LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KGO) — The Sierra has gotten several feet of fresh snow thanks to our recent storms, and many families are jumping at the chance to ride and ski the slopes.
“The snow is beautiful at Tahoe Donner,” said Kat Anderson.
She and her family from San Francisco have been in Truckee for the past week. They weathered the storm, a power outage, are ecstatic to now ski in Truckee.

“It was wonderful. I was skiing all the runs, swishing and slaloming all the way down, and enjoying it so much,” said Anderson.
“We have had a magical wonderland,” she said about the snow and the slopes.
And the weather?
“Quite remarkable. I was enjoying the blue skies yesterday and today. We will have more in the next two days,” said Anderson on Sunday. “By the way, if you have sleds and toboggans for the kiddies, it’s perfect conditions for that.”
Many families are heading up to the Sierra to play in some fresh winter powder, especially since several feet of snow blanketed the area this past week.

At Heavenly Ski Resort in Lake Tahoe, the recent cold storm means a windfall of soft powder — a perfect Christmas and holiday present for snow lovers.
“This storm was massive for us; we got nearly five feet of snow in the last week. It really turned around the entire season,” said Cole Zimmerman, a spokesperson for Heavenly Ski Resort. “I know we’re known for that Sierra cement here in Tahoe at times–but certainly not this storm. I was skiing pretty much every day through the storm here.”
The resort has opened a lot more lifts thanks to the snowfall, and that’s delighting skiers and snowboarders.
“We got a lot of really good pow days and a lot of hooting and hollering and smiles on the faces,” said Zimmerman.
For those thinking about coming up this holiday week, Zimmerman says, “Expect some incredible skiing and riding. The mountain has been skiing better than it has all year now.”
For many, this snow and the conditions on the slopes are well worth the wait.
