SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) — As the NFL season shifts to the playoffs, the planning stage of work for Super Bowl 60 shifts to actual preparations here in the Bay Area.
Driving through the South Bay, the reminders are everywhere and 2026 is going to be an incredible year for sports.
“We are 30 days out and the City of Santa Clara is very excited,” City of Santa Clara spokesperson Janine De La Vega said.
“We’ll be on the global stage like we’ve never been before and we’re ready,” San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said.
After years of planning, work is beginning.
As of Monday, Stars and Stripes Drive is now closed to public traffic as the NFL starts to build out their campus around Levi’s Stadium.
De La Vega says being a host city is an honor, but a major responsibility for city staff.
“They’ve been collaborating with federal, state and local agencies along with close communication with the NFL and the Bay Area Host Committee working on logistics, everything from security to the roads to permits, to communicating out to the public,” De La Vega said.

It’s not just for the big game at Levi’s, the entire South Bay will be a hub for all things Super Bowl.
The Stanford and San Jose State Athletics facilities will be practice locations and the San Jose and Santa Clara Marriott will host the NFC and AFC teams respectively.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan has hired an entire dedicated team to prepare for the big events.
“To make sure we’re able to move people around, ensure everybody’s safety,” Mahan said. “When you fly into SJC, you’re just 10 minutes away from Levi’s Stadium and 5 minutes from Downtown – with our hotels, convention centers, theaters, restaurants, bars and what will really be the heart of the fan experience here.”
