SALINAS, Calif. (KGO) — The Blue Angels will not be performing at this weekend’s California International Airshow in Salinas because of the government shutdown.
Video shows the Navy jets taxiing on the runway before departing Salinas Thursday morning to return to their home base in Pensacola, Florida.

“It’s just unfortunate and it is out of our control. Most of our airshow fans understand that. The Blue have been here a number of times over the years. They felt bad. They even stayed an extra day because they thought maybe, they had permission to do that. They thought maybe the government shutdown would be ended the second day. But, unfortunately that didn’t happen,” said Harry Wardwell, executive director of California International Airshow.
The airshow in Salinas will go on this Saturday and Sunday with top civilian airshow performers.
And for the first-time ever, Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation will demonstrate their electric air taxis in front of a crowd.
